Character Name: Nico Yazawa
Character Canon: Love Live
History: http://love-live.wikia.com/wiki/Yazawa_Nico
AU History: Nico has always, always admired pokemon contests. In a time when people are still wary of pokemon in some respects and focused on rebuilding their lives, the stage where people could perform and show their best with their pokemon, to work together in order to shine the brightest and bring joy into everyone’s hearts was just such a shining light amidst everything else in the world, that there was no way Nico couldn’t want to be a part of it. She wanted to stand up there as well, in pure harmony with her pokemon, all eyes on her as she stood like a star among them. So she did her best to learn what she could, to practice on her own, to participate. Still, for as much as she spent her time trying to be in that spotlight, she couldn’t just escape the realities of the world and her own situation in it. She wasn’t from a wealthy family that could afford to fund what basically amounted to a hobby, nor could she really consider such a frivolous thing as a career. In fact, by the time she was in her teens she’d started to give up on that dream, considering how much more necessary, both for her family and society, that it was she get a “real” job and be working towards that. With her recent awakening as one of the Enlightened though, recognized by the city and given a warp band, allowed special exception from much of society’s rigid rules, she sees a chance to perhaps revive that dream and live the kind of shining life she always dreamed about.
Canon Personality: Nico has an ego. A big ego, one that far belies her tiny stature. Which is not, necessarily, to say that she is selfish, though she can be, or not a team player. She is very good at working with others when she wants to. But her image and sense of self-worth are very important to her – she’s very prideful. This can both be a positive and a negative force. At its best, Nico’s pride motivates her to be the best, to be someone that can be looked up, deserving of the spotlight. At worst, it makes her frustrated, selfish and attention-pulling. Luckily, she tends towards the former more than the latter. Nico has always used her ambition and her conviction of her own self-worth to keep herself motivated and optimistic that her next opportunity was just around the corner. Though she was hitting a slump as she came into highschool, joining μ's – even if it was unwillingly at first – really helped to motivate her again and set her drive to aim for the top on fire. As such, she became one of the members most focused on their goals and aiming for the top, and being real idols.
In a way, her obsessions with pride, image and idols led her to a rather superficial view of what an idol should be and what she should do as one. She starts off with a lot of focus on appearances and conventions, as seen with posing and acting at the drop of a hat, or the use of her trademark phrase as if she were already famous. Over time though she comes to focus more on the genuine bonds she has with the other girls and their strengths and supports and what it means to be a part of μ's genuinely, rather than her idea of what an idol should be. Still, it’s not as if she completely gives up those images. As seen by the blogs she runs and what she tells her siblings, pretending like she’s a super star idol or the center of the group, it’s clear she still has a lot of growing up to do and a high opinion of herself. She’s not completely delusional though – she knows that in a lot of ways, her life doesn’t at all match the dreamy idol celebrity she wishes she was. She struggles to keep others from finding out about that how she lives isn’t nearly as glamorous as she pretends her life is. She really tries to keep anyone else in μ's from finding her house or what she has to do at home. Because she tends to focus so much on image, she assumes others will do the same, so she’s sure they’d think less of her if they found out.
While she likes to be the center of things, and cares a lot about her own image, she’s not completely selfish. Nico understands what it means to work as a team and how to work with others, in fact, she takes it very seriously. She wants the best not just out of herself, but of everyone else she’s with as well. She also really enjoys having others that look up to her, which in turn motivates her to be a bit responsible to them. And even if she says she might be using them as stepping stones, she wouldn’t really ever abandon her friends just for her own glory. She’s also very caring about her family. She always thinks fondly of her father, who passed away, and looks up to her mother very much. She loves taking care of her siblings, even if they do cause her trouble, and they mean the world to her. It’s in their eyes, more than anyone else’s, that she wants to look good in.
Because she’s so driven, Nico is also one of most practical girls in μ's, the one most likely to suggest and stick by the pragmatic answers rather than dreaming with her head in the clouds. Having dealt with failure and harsh realities before, she’s cautious of just throwing things to the wind and winging things, preferring to approach things realistically and with a plan. That’s part of what makes her so cunning, with figuring out how to best use things and situations, even if she sometimes loses sight of reality by overestimating her own capabilities. This also contributes to her artifice, the way she’ll act roles to achieve results, rather than just going with things naturally, and why when things don’t go according to plan, she falls apart easily and reacts with jealousy or anger quickly. She’s quite the handful, and not one to hold back on her opinion. Over all, she’s pushy, prideful and egocentric, but she’s also focused, driven and always looking forward.
AU Deviation: Nico’s interest in idols is instead an interest in pokemon contests. Even in a struggling world like this one – or perhaps because of it – those performers on stage, working in perfect synchronization with their pokemon to bring joy to others, were a perfect example of a shining light to Nico, and exactly what she wants to be. Still, even with that ideal and her newfound freedom as an Enlightened, Nico can’t just ignore the state of society and her responsibilities to it. She’s a bit more conscientious of and sympathetic towards others and little more willing to get down and dirty to get things done for the sake of the community. Still, she expects proper credit and always acts as if she’s the star of things, but she’s a bit more outgoing towards helping out, especially since this is the community that her family lives in, and, until not too long ago, a lot of these responsibilities were ones that would have been mandatory for her, so she still feels like she should help out in what ways she can, especially now that she’s been gifted with ways to help out that others can’t.
Canon Abilities: Being a huge brat.
Enlightened Abilities: Nico will be Dark/Fairy Type and have Egg Mastery. Her typing comes from her both cutesy yet conniving nature, a bit selfish, a bit whimsical, and fond of showing off or messing with others. She avoids attacking directly unless she has to. Her Enlightened ability comes from how she cares for her family.
Initial Stage: Nico wouldn’t have any physical differences at this point, other than her eyes having a pink or black aura when she uses certain moves. As for attacks, she’d have the ability to slightly charm and disarm her opponents, like with Baby Doll Eyes or Fake Tears, to make them slightly hesitant to attack or unconsciously go a bit easier on her, or slow to defend. Like Cute Charm, those who come into contact with her might momentarily feel affection towards her, however irrational. It’s fleeting though, and the longer she’s been around someone the less effective it is, so acquaintances and friends will barely notice.
First Evolution: At this point she’d get little devilish horns, short and black and pointy, on her head as well as little wings on her back, shimmering and fairy-like, but mostly decorative, not able to do much, other than helping her jump a bit higher or land a bit softer. These are all small and easy – if uncomfortable – to hide under clothing. The hardest thing to hide would be the tail – a little spade-tipped tail like the little devil she is. As well, her eyes glowing would be more noticeable, not just appearing when she uses her powers but also when she’s particularly emotional – either darkly or affectionately (or at least acting that way). In regards to powers, she’d be more effectively able to charm her opponents, and the effects from touching her would be stronger. She’d also be able to use her voice as an attack like Disarming Voice or Snarl that aren’t that powerful but can lower the enemy’s ability to fight. She can affect the opponent even more if they give her a long time to talk to them, similar to Taunt, Torment or Flatter.
Second Evolution: The horns would have grown bigger, branching out along a curve as if giving hints of a crown or halo despite their black color. The wings would be bigger too, though still not big enough to truly fly with, they make her much faster and able to jump much further and higher than a normal person. Her tail would be longer, long enough to touch the ground and then some, not like the little knee-length tail she’d had before. Her eyes would have a bit of a glow at even the slightest thought towards mischief or play, only being normal when she’s calm or serious, and would only be brighter or darker the more into it she gets. When fully charged with emotion and using her powers or charm, her eyes might even seem to have hearts in them or a swirling darkness. Likewise, her powers would get to the point that they can sway even the strong-willed or those used to her if she tried hard enough. Her voice can carry it more and touch is even more powerful – those who listen to and come into contact her can’t help but feel a little something, and some might become infatuated on the spot. The right words might drive someone into a rage or leave them charmed, but a kiss? Could steal their senses or even their life, like Sweet Kiss or Draining Kiss. Whether she’d be willing to use them though, well… Of course, it’s all temporary (besides the energy she might steal) – it’s not like she could actually change someone’s mind completely. But in a fierce battle or a close contest, swaying someone’s mind for just a little bit can be long enough.

First-Person: [The video function of the warp band turns on – a bit prematurely, it seems, judging by the snickering and muttered “this is going to be perfect”. It’s hard to tell who it is with how close they’re leaning, but soon enough it becomes clear as the user backs up – apparently leaving their band propped up on something – and strikes a pose.]
Nico nico nii~! It’s everyone’s beloved Nico-chan! [Everyone’s who? You’d be lucky if you’ve even seen her before.] Broadcasting to all of you out there working hard every day, with a nico-nico smile straight to your hearts~ I recently became an Enlightened and got a warp band too, so I hope you can all show me the ropes, tee-hee! Oh, and don’t forget to come to the contest at the end of the month to cheer me on! It’ll be Super Idol Nico-chan’s debut, so don’t miss out!
[She smiles and bounces cutely forwards to turn the feed off. Only… it doesn’t really turn off.]
Thanks for holding it, Murkrow! [There’s a caw as the warp band drops and Nico picks it up, putting it back on – giving the audience a shaky-cam view of her pokemon that had been doing the filming for her apparently.] That went pretty well, don’t you think? First impressions are important! That’s why- huh, what’s wrong?
[She turns over her wrist and as the camera comes back to looking at her face, it perfectly captures her look of horror as she realizes it’s still recording.]
This-! Ah, um… see you next time! Nico nico nii-[And then the feed is hastily cut.]
Third-Person:
-What would you say the role of Pokémon is in your life?
“What? They’re my adorable friends and backup dancers, of course! I wouldn’t go anywhere without them~”
-What do you feel your role in Union is?
“To be the brightest shining star, of course! I think there’s things that only I can do, so of course I want to be the best that I can and bring a smile to the faces of everyone who’s working so hard, right?”
-To what lengths would you go to rescue your allies if they were lost in the wilderness?
“I’d do anything to help them! Well, nothing bad though.” Lies – she’d actually weigh it pretty pragmatically, though if it involved her family or someone she really cared about, she’d do anything, no matter how bad it was. Not that she can say that publically, right?
-What aspects and traits do you respect most in your individual fellow man?
“Their generosity and kindness of course~” Lies – she actually admires drive and ambition, but she thinks that sounds too shady.
-What do you look for in the Pokémon with whom you bond?
“It has to be the cutest pokemon for the cutest trainer, right?” Mostly true – she also likes ones that are a bit mischievous though.
-What do you think your Pokémon respect most about you?
“My charisma and cuteness of course!” Lies – she knows it’s because she takes care of them like family practically.
-The gods of old have returned. How would you be judged if you were chosen as a representative of humanity?
“A, a representative before gods? Um… Nico nico nii~ just look how brightly humanity is shining! There’s no way they could have a bad impression, right?” Lies – this sounds pretty intimidating and she’s pretty sure something that serious is out of her league.
-A human has attacked a wild Pokémon who retaliates in defense. How do you respond and whom do you defend?
“It’s the human’s fault, right? You said it yourself, that the pokemon was just acting in defense!”
-When encountering a rare and powerful Pokémon, what is most important? Researching it, bonding with it, or defeating it? Why?
“Bonding with it, of course! The best way to understand something like that is to get close to it, right?”
-In your eyes, what is absolutely unforgivable.
“Giving up when there’s still more you can do.”
-What area do you seek to explore? The peaceful forest, in search of new, previously overlooked discoveries; the uncharted caves, in search of the unknown; or the wildest of mountain terrain, in search of danger, adventure, and thrills?
“A pretty forest full of adorable pokemon is what suits me best, don’t you think so?”
